The Route and Drive Time

NH52 and NH48 carry most of this route south through Ajmer, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh before reaching Udaipur β€” a well-maintained highway with a mix of flat desert-edge stretches and gently rolling terrain further south. Total drive time runs 7–8 hours, making it comfortably doable in a single day if you leave by mid-morning.

Worthwhile Stops Along the Way

Pushkar and Ajmer, about 2.5 hours from Jaipur, make an excellent first stop β€” Pushkar's sacred lake and rare Brahma temple are worth an hour or two even on a driving day. Chittorgarh, roughly two-thirds of the way to Udaipur, is home to one of India's largest forts and is worth a longer stop or even an overnight if your schedule allows.

If you're not stopping overnight, a shorter break at Chittorgarh Fort's main gates and Vijay Stambh (Victory Tower) still gives a real sense of the fort's scale without needing the half-day a full visit deserves.

One Day or Two?

Doing the drive in a single day is entirely realistic if you're comfortable with 7-8 hours on the road and keep stops brief. Splitting it into two days β€” with an overnight in Pushkar or Chittorgarh β€” turns the drive itself into a proper leg of the trip rather than just transit time, and is the better choice if you haven't visited either stop before.
